Is a Mask the same as a Layer Mask!?
This is the secret sauce to creating stunning illustrations, and it’s only a fly out menu away. It’s so easy to use, it’s almost fun! Just follow two simple rules and start painting away.
Let’s clarify what we mean when we refer to Mask in Procreate. To get to Mask, you select your layer, then choose Mask from the fly out menu. The new layer name will then be Layer Mask, hence you may hear both terms, Mask and Layer Mask, used interchangeably.
The great thing about a Mask is it lets you erase without being destructive. In other words, you can remove and then add back, without fear of losing your work, even after saving to the gallery weeks or months prior.
On the other hand, when the Eraser is used, the erased work can only be restored by using the Undo feature, which is limited and cannot be used after saving to the gallery. Using the Mask, allows you worry-free versatility when you want to experiment with color, texture, or shading on your layer. So, get acquainted with this great feature and have fun making fabulous art!
