Getting a Fresh Start
Starting a new year brings opportunities… for self-improvement, professional endeavors, and opportunities to start fresh. And it so happens to be that I’m a real believer in starting fresh… especially when it’s something I really enjoy.
In my first YouTube video for 2024 it was all about cleaning up Procreate. Now truth be told, it was inspired by my iPad. Simple things like opening and closing a canvas started taking forever. Procreate never crashed, or froze up, until now.
I started getting crazy thoughts like… “I think I need a new iPad”.
This made me go back to the basics…
I started by blaming the app.
In iOS (the operating system that runs iPad) there is a way to delete only the app, the canvases and brushes are left untouched. This is useful if Procreate had been corrupted. Replacement of a fresh new copy of Procreate, made sense to me. So, I tried it… and it didn’t have any effect, the app was still slow.
…So, I blamed the device.
It all made sense when I saw how much storage was being used on my iPad. This meant that there wouldn’t be enough storage to basically run the OS efficiently. How do you fix this? I started by identifying the apps that use the most amount of storage space. Then I start deleting the files that are no longer needed. By eliminating unwanted files, storage space is created. And who was my biggest offender…? Of course, it was Procreate and this is what I did:
I started deleting:
1. Duplicate canvases and
2. Canvases that were not completed (or abandoned).
Here’s the big takeaways from this experience.
I learned not to procrastinate the inevitable of:
1. Naming the canvases.
2. Deleting the canvases.
